What is a TTN (товарно-транспортная накладная)?

Warehouse
A TTN (товарно-транспортная накладная) is a consignment / transport note used in CIS trade to record that goods were handed to a carrier (or moved between parties) for delivery. It ties what was shipped, who sent and receives it, and often who transports it — not merely an internal packing scribble.
What a TTN is for
- Proof that a shipment left the sender with listed lines and quantities
- Handover document between shipper, carrier, and consignee
- Support for claims if goods arrive short, damaged, or wrong
- In many workflows, a basis for accounting and tax trail of goods movement
Exact legal form and whether a classic paper TTN, CMR, or e-document is required depends on country, cargo type, and carrier rules. For a shop the practical point: shipments need a clear transport document, not only a chat message “courier took it.”
Typical fields you will see
- Sender and recipient
- Carrier / vehicle (when applicable)
- Line items: name, unit, quantity (sometimes weight/places)
- Dates and signatures / stamps of handover
- Notes on seals, packages, special conditions
TTN vs invoice vs packing list
- Invoice / счёт — money side (what to pay)
- Packing list / накладная на отгрузку — what is in the boxes for warehouse/ops
- TTN — transport handover of those goods
Small shops sometimes use one multi-purpose form. Conceptually, still separate money, stock pick, and transport responsibility.
Why shops care
Without a proper handover trail, shortage at the door becomes a he-said-she-said between supplier, courier, and you. Reclamations about transit damage lean on what was signed at load and unload.
Practical tips
- Match TTN lines to what you actually loaded — not to the purchase order fantasy.
- Keep copies (photo of signed pages is better than nothing).
- On receive: count before you sign “accepted without remarks.”
- Link the TTN number in your receipt or shipment notes for later claims.
Optional next step
Treat the TTN as part of goods movement, next to receipt and write-off. Order/shipment tools that store document numbers help later claims — for example shipment notes in datalizeCRM — but signed handover discipline matters first.
